Oops sorry late response. I was busy with a stupid report for this illustration project -___- Okay so Im really new to doing backgrounds, something I’ve only recently started to look into and this hardly counts as a background but yeah. Last semester I took a illustration course for the first time and it was amazing. I learned a lot of things I never even considered. One of them being this tool. Fucking Polygonal Lasso tool. I never used it, i always used the free style lasso but this is damn useful for lighting and shadows.
This is what the scene looks like without any lighting. The two light sources will come from the outside of the two windows but for now I’ll just do one.
I used the polygonal lasso tool to create this shape around my light source. Used the gradient tool from yellow -> transparent
This is what it looks like with the line work,
With the other background colours, make sure the light layer is on top of all the other colours.
I did the same for the shadow of the boxes, just remember which direction your light source is coming from. And at this point the yellow light layer transparency is on normal.
But you play around with them, and mess around with the opacity, I used ‘Lighten’ at 53% opacity and viola. I also erased the light that was sticking out of the box. I have no other advice lol because I’m still super new to this but yeah. POLYGONAL LASSO TOOL.
